Eight Officers From the 5th District Receive MCPD Commendations

The Montgomery County Police Department held its Quarterly Awards Ceremony last week at the Public Safety Headquarters, in Gaithersburg. The ceremony featured the presentation of awards in recognition of the outstanding work of department personnel.

At the ceremony, eight officers from 5th District – Germantown received awards, three received the Life Saving Award, and five received Commendations from the department.

The Life Saving Award is be awarded to an officer who makes a major contribution toward saving the life of another by providing essential medical treatment prior to arrival of EMS personnel: Officers from the 5th District receiving the Life Saving Award were Police Officer III Gary Finch, Police Officer II Joshua Locke, and Police Officer II Gregory Walker.

Montgomery County Police award commendations to an officer who makes a significant contribution to the mission of the department beyond the ordinary call of duty. The commendation “shall recognize those incidents wherein the member’s courage, resourcefulness, tenacity, and/or perseverance in the performance of the employee’s duties has resulted in the protection of life or property, the prevention of a major crime, or the apprehension of an armed and dangerous criminal,” said the MCPD press release.

Officers from the 5th District receiving Commendations were: Police Officer III George Boyce, Police Officer III Andrew King, Police Officer I Mark Hugi, Police Officer I Michael Murphy, and Police Officer I Charles Ricucci.

“I am very proud of the heroic and lifesaving efforts performed by officers in the 5th District,” said 5th District Commander David Gillespie. “These officers are willing to risk their lives to protect others, and they represent our department in the highest regard. The recognition these officers received is well deserved.”
