County Pools Open with Ribbon Cutting at Renovated Western County Outdoor Pool
The Departments of Recreation and General Services celebrated the opening of the newly renovated Western County Outdoor Pool with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday.
The pool, located at 20151 Fisher Avenue in Poolesville, has been renovated. Renovations to the pool began in September 2015 and included the construction of a new 3,160- square foot “spray” ground and renovations of the bathhouse, snack bar and filter room. In addition, upgrades to the site and buildings, including the parking lot and pool grounds, improved accessibility. Accessible upgrades at the site include drinking fountains, pool deck showers, restrooms and shower facilities, and an accessible route to a shade structure. Other system upgrades include new light fixtures and in-pool lighting, a new dive board and a new leisure pool slide. Renovation costs were approximately $3.85 million.
County Councilmember Hans Riemer, joined by State Delegate David V. Fraser-Hidalgo, Jim Brown, President, Town of Poolesville Commissioners, Montgomery County Director Gabe Albornoz, and General Services Deputy Director Greg Ossont officially cut the ribbon to open the pool.
Montgomery County Recreation has six additional outdoor pools which opened on Saturday, just at the weather became conducive to swimming. The outdoor pools, including the Germantown Outdoor Pool, at 18905 Kingsview Road will be open weekends and holidays until June 20, when they switch to a daily schedule.
As the summer swim season gets underway, residents are encouraged to become familiar with the safety rules posted at the pools. Children are at risk for water-related accidents and it is important they are closely supervised at all times while in and around the pool. Because safety is the priority for Recreation Department programs, it may be necessary to temporarily halt admission to pools when capacity is reached. Additional swimmers will be admitted as soon as space becomes available.
