One Dead in Early Morning Crash on I-270 in Clarksburg

One person is dead after an early morning crash on northbound I-270 near the Clarksburg Road/MD 121 interchange in Clarksburg on Thursday, May 19.

Maryland State Police say that at 2:35 am they received calls from concerned drivers about a disabled vehicle, a Blue Toyota Yaris, in one of the travel lanes of the highway and dispatched a trooper to respond. About five minutes later, at 2:40 am, the Rockville Barrack a call that there was a collision at the same scene.

According to State Police, the initial investigation revealed the driver of the black Honda Accord struck the rear end of the disabled vehicle. The driver the Yaris was killed in the collision. The driver of the Honda Accord was transported by Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville with non-life threatening injuries.

Maryland State Police said that alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this incident.

Names of the victim and the driver of the Honda have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack at 301-424-2101. The investigation is ongoing.

The crash and subsequent investigation forced the closure of northbound I-270 for about four hours Thursday morning.
