Northwest LAX Playoff Runs End With Urbana

May 16, 2016

Both the Northwest boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams ended their seasons with playoff losses to Urbana High School on Saturday.

The Lady Jags fell to Urbana 15-8 at Northwest on Saturday afternoon. The Northwest girls had earned a bye in the first round of the playoffs, thanks to posting an 8-4 record during the regular season. However, they were not strong enough to overcome an early lead posted by the Urbana Hawks. Urbana came into the game with a 7-7 regular season record and entered the game with Northwest after a 14-6 victory over Clarksburg on Wednesday, May 11.

Urbana will face Quince Orchard for the 4A West Semi-Final on Monday, May 16.

The Lady Jags eight regular-season wins are the most wins during the regular season that a Northwest girls’ team has posted in at least six seasons dating back to 2010. The Lady Jags were led this year by a core of five seniors including, Kelly Miller, Katie Palmiere, Megan Lynch, Brooke Wallmark, and Madeline Gerardi.

Later on Saturday, the Northwest boys’ lacrosse team traveled to Urbana to take on the 8-5 Hawks. The Jags lost 4-19. Urbana was the top seed in the bracket coming into playoffs with a regular season record of 8-5, which earned them the first-round bye. The Jags were coming off an 11-10 victory over Gaithersburg in the first round.

The Jags finished the regular season with a record of 6-6, which is an improvement over last season’s 5-7 record. The team also won a first round playoff game this year. However, they were unable to garner much offense against the Hawks. The Jags were led by fourteen seniors; Noah Jensen, Eric Geringer, Dylan Reed, Colin Hanley, Sean Le, Evan Kanz, Camille Tiako, Alex Reinsch, Zach Famoso, Patrick Vogel, Hassan Garrison, Danny Haghjou, Nate Bristor, and John Adzema.

However, they were unable to garner much offense against the Hawks. Urbana’s boys’ team will also play Quince Orchard in the 4A West Semi-Finals on Monday, May 16.
