Parcelles' Fourth Goal Lifts Jags Past Gaithersburg in Playoff Game
The Northwest boys lacrosse team defeated Gaithersburg 11-10, on the road in what should have been a home game for the Jags. The Jags were supposed to be the home team for Wednesday’s playoff game. However, the previously scheduled Montgomery County Track Championships were being held at Northwest, so the game was switched to Gaithersburg High School.
The Northwest Jaguars entered the game with a record of 6-6 while Gaithersburg came in with a record of 3-8. The last time these two teams played, back on April 15 the Trojans were able to beat the Jags by one goal 10-9 in overtime.
Last night, the Jags came out victorious netting one more goal, thanks to Shane Parcelles, who scored the winning goal.
The game winner was part of a four-goal night the sophomore midfielder. It was three sophomore middies who accounted for the bulk of the Jags offense on Wednesday night. Sophomores Luke Patterson and Pierce Barbour each had three goals. Patterson also had an assist, while Barbour had two assists. Junior captain Cole Notari added one goal. Junior attacker Doug Haller also had two assists, and senior attackman Alex Reinsch pitched in with one assist.
The Jags will advance to the second round of the playoffs and play 8-5 Urbana High School on Friday night in Frederick County. The Urbana Hawks had a bye in the first-round of the playoffs and are coming off an 11-3 victory over Whitman on May 6.
