UPDATE: Suspect in Custody - After Two Fatal Shootings in County
UPDATE: Montgomery County Police have announced that they have suspect, Eulalio Seville Tordil, in custody. He was apprehended at the shopping center in Aspen Hill.
Many Montgomery County facilities, including all MCPS schools, are in shelter-in-place mode after two shootings this morning at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda and a Giant Food Store in Aspen Hill. Police are searching for the shooter who remains at large 1:30 pm.
“At the request of the police, we are placing all MCPS schools in a shelter-in-place due to police activity at Montgomery Mall and in Aspen Hill. We anticipate that dismissal will occur on time,” read an alert from Montgomery County.
The Shelter-in-Place order was lifted at all MCPS schools at 2:10 pm, except Parkland Middle School, Strathmore Elementary School, Georgian Forest Elementary School, Brookhaven Elementary School, and Harmony Hills Elementary School.
In addition to all MCPS schools, all Montgomery County Recreation Centers and parks facilities are in lockdown mode as police search for the shooter.
At about 11:00 am Friday morning MCPD responded to Montgomery Westfield Mall in Bethesda for the report of a shooting. Police say three people were shot in the parking lot near the Macy’s store. According to police, a confrontation happened in the parking lot which led to one adult being shot. Two other victims were shot coming to the aid of the first victim, police said. All three victims, two males and one female, were transported by MCFRS to area hospitals.
Police report that one male has died from his wounds, the other male victim is in critical condition, and the woman suffered non-life threatening injuries.
According to police, less than an hour later at about 11:50 am MCPD were called to the parking lot outside of a Giant Store at 13781 Connecticut Ave in Aspen Hill. Police report than an adult female was fatally shot at that location. Police are continuing to investigate that there is a connection between the shootings.
Montgomery County Police Assistant Chief Darryl McSwain told reporters that police did have a person of interest which they were searching for in connection to these shootings. However, police did not confirm that these two events were definitely connected but believe they might be. Police are also investigating if these incidents are related to the shootings which took place Thursday at High Point High School in Prince George’s County.
Police say that the suspect in this morning’s shootings was driving a silver four-door sedan.
Montgomery County Police and Prince George’s County Police are still also searching for Eulalio Seville Tordil, an Asian Male, 5-foot, 5-inches and 160 pounds in connection with the shootings at High Point High School.
Police have not confirmed that Tordil was involved in the shootings at the mall and the Aspen Hill Giant Store. Police remain on high alert because Tordil is a former law enforcement officer with the Federal Protective Service and is known to carry a handgun. He has also made threats to commit suicide by cop. He was last seen driving a rental vehicle, a silver 2015 Hyundai Elantra with Pennsylvania plates JZA0123. He is wanted for First Degree Murder is presumed armed.
