Seneca Valley Baseball Beats Blake, 7-1, Softball Loses 5-2

Seneca Valley’s diamond teams took a split decision over visiting teams from Blake High School on Monday afternoon in Germantown. On the baseball diamond, the Eagles defeated Blake 7-1, while on the softball field the Lady Eagles struggled to plate runs and lost 2-5.

With the win on Monday, Seneca improved to 3-5 on the season and Blake fell to 2-7. The Eagles took the lead on back-to-back triples in the third inning after giving Blake an early run. In the third inning, with a runner at first, starting pitcher Seneca Valley junior Marcus Toombs ripped a triple to right-center field. The shot scored his younger brother Jalen Toombs, who had reached on a base-on-balls earlier in the inning.

The next batter, junior John Richards, took a pitch deep to centerfield for another triple which scored Marcus Toombs from third. Richards would steal home on a wild pitch a few batters later. The two triples and alert base running gave the Eagles the lead in the third inning, and they wouldn’t look back. The Eagles would tack on four more runs to defeat the Blake Bengals 7-1.

The Lady Eagles would not fair as well on Monday against the Lady Bengals. The Lady Eagles played from behind all game trailing 3-1 in the fifth inning but were unable to get runners home. The Lady Bengals extended their lead to 5-1 in the top of the sixth inning, as a Blake base hit and a Seneca Valley throwing error drove in two base runners. The Lady Eagles would add one more run but would fall to the Bengals 5-2.

The Seneca Valley Softball team have two more games this week. The girls are away at 2-5-1 Poolesville on Wednesday and host 4-3 Magruder on Thursday. The baseball team is also away at 6-2 Poolesville on Wednesday, and host 4-4 Magruder in Germantown on Thursday.
