Northwest Principal to Leave for Associate Superintendent’s Post

April 19, 2016

After seven years as principal, the face of Northwest High School, Principal E. Lancelotti “Lance” Dempsey will be leaving the school to take a new post with Montgomery County Public Schools as Associate Superintendent of Human Resources.

Dempsey, who could be seen prowling both the hallways during school hours, and sidelines at sporting events, including Jaguars football games, was appointed to her new post by the Board of Education at a meeting Tuesday morning. She will become associate superintendent of human resources and development beginning July 1. She announced the change in email to parents, staff, and others Tuesday afternoon.

“Being the principal of Northwest has been an honor and a privilege, and I have thoroughly enjoyed serving you. I will miss being here every day to support you, encourage you, laugh with you, and cheer you on to always put forth our best effort so that our kids will reap the benefits of our collaborative hard work,” she said.

“This opportunity to take what we’ve done at Northwest to the district level is very exciting,” she added. “As the Associate Superintendent of Human Resources and Development, I will have the opportunity to lead, influence and work collaboratively to ensure that we continue to have the highest quality diverse workforce in every position who come to work every day to meet the needs of our diverse students and families.”

In the coming weeks, Dempsey said she will be working with Associate Superintendent of High Schools Darryl Williams on the selection process for the next principal of Northwest High School.

“Know that you will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the characteristics for the new principal,” she added.
