Seneca Valley Sweeps Wheaton on the Diamonds
The Screaming Eagles baseball and softball teams swept the Wheaton Knights at home on Monday afternoon. The Seneca Valley softball team earned their first shutout since April 1, 2014, with yesterday’s 21-0 victory over Wheaton, and the baseball team earned their first victory of the young 2016 season.
Junior pitcher Whitney Dickerson earned the shutout in the Lady Eagles third victory of the season. The Eagles have wins over Whitman, Gaithersburg and now Wheaton, to extend their 2016 record to 2-3. The two losses are to Quince Orchard and Rockville.
With just three seniors, Haley David, Carolyn Majane, and Aries Tibbs, the Lady Eagles are hoping that core group, along with juniors Dickerson, Bryanna Mejia, and Bridget Shaughnessy can lead the young team past last year’s 7-12 record into a postseason run.
While the Lady Eagles were pounding the Lady Knights on the softball diamond, the baseball team was vanquishing the Knights on the Seneca Valley baseball diamond.
Seneca earned their first win of the season with a 7-5 victory, to improve to 1-4 on the season. The Eagles have been struggling to find offense early in the season scoring just four runs in their first four games. The Eagles have losses to Whitman, Quince Orchard, Gaithersburg, and Rockville.
