High Wind and Freeze Warning For Germantown Area Tonight

April 2, 2016

It seems the biggest prank of April Fools Day was played by Mother Nature giving us that wonderful 80-degree day on Friday. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning and a Freeze Warning for Germantown and the entire UpCounty Montgomery County area beginning tonight, Saturday, April 2.

The High Wind Warning goes into effect tonight at 11:00 pm and will run until noon on Sunday, April 3. Expect sustained winds of 20- to 30-mph with gusts up to 60-mph late tonight into tomorrow morning.

The Freeze Warning goes into effect at midnight tonight and lasts until 10:00 am Sunday, April 3. Temperatures are expected to drop to near 30 degrees by dawn on Sunday, said the NWS. Unprotected vegetation sensitive to freezing temperatures will be killed or damaged.

The high sustained winds and gusts may bring down trees and branches, and downed power lines are expected, said the NWS. These winds may also cause minor structural damage, according to the National Weather Service. Driving high profile vehicles in these conditions can be dangerous. The NWS warns residents to anticipate power outages if you live by large trees.

Do not approach downed utility wires as they still may be energized, call 9-1-1 to report downed wires.
