Clarksburg Poms Win National Championship Titles

The Clarksburg Sports Association Poms have brought home two national championship titles from a trip to the Cheer and Dance Extreme Grand National Championships held recently in Virginia Beach, Va.

The Clarksburg Pom teams traveled to Virginia Beach for the event held over the weekend on March 12 and 13. Even though this was the first year the CSA Poms participated in this two-day competition, the teams were able to bring home National Championship Titles in both the Youth Rec Pom Division and the Junior Rec Pom Division.

“It was an incredible weekend,” said Head Coach Lillie Ellison. “Both teams gave solid performances. These young ladies always represent CSA Poms with drive and determination. As a coach, I couldn’t be more proud.”

Pom Commissioner Tammy Layman said, “We are very proud of all of our young ladies. Both teams put in a lot of practice and dedication and this is a great way for them to end the season. Not only did they walk away with National Championship Banners and Jackets, they also walked away feeling good about their individual performances and contributions to the team.”

During the regular season, the girls, who range in age from 5 to 14, practice two nights per week. This year, the teams performed at various CSA sporting events, the Poolesville Days Parade, the Montgomery County Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Chinese American Association of Greater Washington’s Friendship Games, Clarksburg Cultural Days, half-time with the Clarksburg High School Poms, and at three local competitions.

Since CSA Poms started in 2007, the teams have brought home 24 national championship titles while under Tammy Layman’s direction. To learn more about the CSA Pom program, visit CSAsports.org.
