Boyds Man Killed in ATV Collision

Montgomery County Police report that a Boyds man is dead after a collision with a vehicle on Monday afternoon in Boyds.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision involving an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) at the intersection of Whites Ferry Road and Sugarland Road near the Route 28 split to Poolesville. Police officers from the 1st District and MCFRS units were called to the intersection shortly after 3:00 pm on Monday afternoon.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicated that a 2002 Lexus IS300 was traveling eastbound on Whites Ferry Road. A 2003 Honda Rincon four wheeler ATV was traveling northbound on Sugarland Road when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle and the ATV collided.

The ATV operator is identified as Mark Douglas Hutchinson, age 26, of the 16900 block of White Ground Road in Boyds, he was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries Monday evening. Investigators do not believe that he was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Lexus is identified as Mary Jane Elizabeth Chinchilla, 19, of the 19000 block of Highstream Drive in Germantown, she was also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The intersection of Whites Road and Sugarland Road were closed for a number of hours Monday afternoon and evening while detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the incident. There was no word from police regarding if charges would be brought against the driver.

The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this fatal collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773- 6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
