High Winds Spark Brush Fire in Boyds

Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units were called to the area near 22500 Shiloh Church Road in Boyds late Monday morning after high winds knocked a tree into power lines and sparked a brush fire.

“The flames started low to the ground and shot up as the wind blustered,” said neighbor John Collier. Firefighters responded with four-wheel drive and brush units to extinguish the several acres of burning woodlands.

MCFRS used four engines and two tanker trucks to bring water to the fire which was well off the road up a steep incline. Firefighters had to bring water in from a fill site at Rt. 355 and Comus Road in Clarksburg, which was over two miles away.

As a result of the downed wire and subsequent fire, residents were without power for about 90 minutes.
