Kostecka’s 32 Points Lift Coyotes Past Jags
The Clarksburg Coyotes avenged an early season loss to Northwest Tuesday night as senior Andrew Kostecka scored 32 points in the 66-54 victory over the Jags.
The Coyotes jumped out to an early lead thanks to junior Ian Krishnan’s nine-point first quarter, including two from beyond the three-point line. Krishnan would finish with 12 points. Clarksburg led 21-11 after the first quarter. Clarksburg senior Jeff McInnis also finished in double-digits scoring 11 points in the victory.
Kostecka’s 32 points led all scorers; he was seven-for-eight from the free throw line. He had 12 points in the fourth quarter to seal the game for Clarksburg.
Northwest had a strong scoring performance from senior Tim Biakapia, who dropped 19 points in a losing effort. Fellow senior Justin Woodard added nine points on three three-pointers.
The Coyotes have won two games in two days after beating Poolesville on Monday and Northwest Tuesday night. Clarksburg improved their record to 12-6. They will travel to play the top team in MCPS in Quince Orchard on Friday night. The Coyotes have four road games remaining in the regular season, at QO, and at Sherwood on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Kennedy on Friday, Feb. 16, and the finish the regular season at Blake on Mon. Feb. 22.
The Jags fall to 6-12 on the season and will also finish out the last three games on the road. The Jags are at Gaithersburg on Friday night, followed by at Oakdale in Frederick County on Wednesday, Feb. 17, and then at Einstein at 5:30 pm on Monday, Feb. 22.
