The incident occurred about 6:35 pm when the adult male worker was hit be a vehicle travelling in the southbound lane of Ridge Road, which is Maryland State Route 27, according to Montgomery County Police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks..

Late this afternoon Montgomery County Police released a statement saying the preliminary investigation revealed that a State Highway work crew was unloading a disabled highway truck on the northbound shoulder of Ridge Road. The road was not icy, and alcohol is not a factor in the investigation, according to police.

The incident and subsequent investigation closed Ridge Road between Kings Valley Road and Hawkes Road for five hours as the MCPD Collision Reconstruction Unit worked to determine the cause of the collision. Traffic was rerouted to using Hawkes Road, Stringtown Road, and Kings Valley Road to avoid the investigation.

The road was reopened to traffic after 11:30 pm on Tuesday evening.
