Fourth-Quarter Comeback Spurs Watkins Mill Over Lady Jags

Two teams in need of a win met at Northwest last night. The Lady Jags were hoping to snap a four-game losing streak, and Watkins Mill was in the middle of their own three-game losing streak. The Lady Wolverines would come back in the last quarter to win 52-45.

The Jags came out strong to take a 27-21 lead at halftime. But after a solid first half of basketball, the Lady Jags were unable to fend off a fourth-quarter comeback by the girls from Watkins Mill on Monday night.

Led by Brittanie Wray’snine-points in the third quarter, Watkins Mill was able to come back from a seven-point halftime deficient to tie the game at the end of the third quarter. Wray would finish the game with 16 points, to lead all scorers.

The Jags were sparked early by Alexis Mack and Diaja Black, who each finished in double-digits with 15 points, the Lady Jags lost their shooting touch in the second half, scoring just 17 points while ladies from Watkins Mill enjoyed a 31 points second half. The comeback was led by Shawna McDougle who scored five of her 13 total points in the fourth quarter. She was eight for six from the foul line.

On Wednesday, 3-8 Watkins Mill will travel to face 12-2 Poolesville, while the 5-9 Jags will host cross-town rivals, the 1-11 Lady Eagles of Seneca Valley.
