Volunteers Wanted for Point-in-Time Count of Homeless in Germantown Area
The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments’ Homeless Services Planning and Coordinating Committee will be conducting its 16 annual Point-in-Time (PIT) Count of the area’s homeless and formerly homeless population.
As part of Council of Governments count, the Montgomery County Point-in-Time-Count is scheduled for January 27. The PIT is an annual survey of homeless persons in Montgomery County who are residing in sheltered and unsheltered environments. Volunteers will be going out late evening, from 7:30 pm until 1:00 am, on the night of January 27 to designated locations and/or the morning of January 28 from 4:00 am to 9:00 am for the Gaithersburg/Germantown/Damascus area to survey homeless persons.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to participate.
All volunteers must preregister by January 25 and attend the mandatory training on the night of the PIT January 27. Training will be held at 7:30 pm. at 1301 Piccard Drive, 1st Floor Conference Rooms, Rockville, for all volunteers. The training will provide outreach education, review of the survey, and safety tips. At the conclusion of the training, teams will be formed and volunteers will be sent out to various locations throughout Montgomery County seeking homeless persons to complete the survey.
