Man Dies in Mulcher Accident

Montgomery County Police are investigating the death of an employee at a mulch making company in Clarksburg on Monday, Jan. 11.

Police and Fire Rescue units were called to Metro Ground Cover at 24420 Frederick Road in Clarksburg for an industrial accident at 8:32 am on Monday morning. Police report that an adult male employee was injured by the mulch making machine. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Montgomery County Police identified the deceased as Glenn Edward Baugher III, age 28, from Frederick, Md.

Montgomery County Police spokesperson Rebecca Innocenti said that police do not suspect foul play in this case, but must investigate all accidental workplace deaths. She also said that the Maryland Department of Occupational Safety and Health Administration would conduct its own investigation of the incident.

Pete Piringer, senior spokesman for the MCFRS said, “It appears as though an adult male worker had been working on a hopper machine piece of equipment, there may have been a mechanical failure of some sort in a piece of equipment which then struck the patient.”

Metro Ground Covers is a company which produces and distributes mulch, topsoil, compost, and wood chips and his been in business since 1993, according to the company’s FaceBook page.
