Northwest Girls Defeat Seneca Valley

For the first time since 2012, the Northwest Lady Jaguars have defeated their cross-town rivals from Seneca Valley. The Lady Jags earned a 50-33 victory on Friday night.

Seneca Valley came into the game hoping for their second win of the season, but the 4-4 Lady Jags were not willing to oblige. Northwest jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, thanks to junior Alexis Mack’s five points in the first quarter. The quarter would end with the Jaguars leading 13-5. Mack would finish the game with 10 points.

Northwest got good production from Mack and senior Daija Black, who lead all scorer with 14 points, along with fellow senior Celine Jordan, who pitched in eight points. The Jags spread the ball around and had 10 players with points in the game. As a team the Lady Jags were 10-19 from the free throw line, making 53 percent of free throws.

Seneca Valley was led by senior Wanitta Bellah, who finished with 12 points, nine which came from beyond the three-point arc. Bryanna Mejia had a productive game from the point and finished with seven points.

The 5-4 Jags are hoping their winning ways will continue into next week as they will travel to play the 5-3 Quince Orchard Lady Cougars on Tuesday, and host a talented 7-2 Clarksburg Coyotes team on Friday night.

The 1-6 Lady Screaming Eagles also hope to once again find the winning combination as they will host 1-5 Watkins Mill on Tuesday to prepare for a tough test against the 6-1 Hornets in Damascus on Friday night.
