Barons’ Foul Shooting Earns Late Victory Over Jags

The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Barons came to Germantown with the intention to push their season record over .500 and jump-start their hopes of returning to the state finals game for a second straight season. The Jags were hoping to get end a two-game losing streak as both teams met on Wednesday night. However, the Barons would prevail taking the game 56-47.

   The Jags came out strong and lead 23-21 at halftime, thanks to Ty Richardson’s eight first-quarter points. The senior forward would finish the game with 19 points to lead all scorers for the night.

   It was the Barons’ fourth-quarter free-throws that proved to be the difference in the game. Bethesda made eight of nine from the line down the stretch, and shot 67 percent from the stripe all night, sinking 16 of 24 attempts. BCC had three players in double-digits, junior Cameron Galic led the Barons with 17 points, followed by seniors Robert Lowndes with 11 points and Kevin Holston with 10 points.  

   The Jags held the lead most of the game but were outshot 18 to eight in the last period. Sophomore TJ Williams added eight points, and senior Justin Woodard also finished with eight points in the losing effort.

   Bethesda-Chevy Chase improved to 3-2 on the season and the Jags drop to 1-4 for the young season. Northwest will travel to play a 2-2 Richard Montgomery team on Friday night.

   Other Germantown area basketball teams fared much better on Wednesday. Seneca Valley improved to 2-2 with a 77-47 home victory over Rockville. Seneca Valley had four players in double-digits. The Eagles were led by junior Brandon Simpson with 12 points and 12 rebounds, juniors Tyran Crawford added 12 points, and Matthew Kareem pitched in 10 points while senior Andrew Dantzler also had 10 points in the victory. The Eagles travel to will face 0-5 Wheaton on Friday night.

   The Clarksburg Coyotes got back to winning ways with a 70-44 home victory over Einstein Wednesday night. Clarksburg is now 3-1 and will face an unbeaten 4-0 Springbrook team in the Coyote Den on Friday night.
