The Greene Turtle in Germantown will join other Greene Turtle franchises around the region in an effort to help underprivileged kids have a nicer holiday as they kick off the 10th Annual Tip$ For Tots campaign on Wednesday.
What started as a small act of kindness from a Green Turtle bartender in Salisbury, has grown into an annual event. After seeing that the local Toys for Tots bin was nearly empty, Corlie Brice decided to use the tips she received that night to purchase toys for the program. Since then, the holiday spirit has spread, and The Greene Turtle Franchise has donated over $103,000 in toys through tips donated by The Greene Turtle staff.
“Tips for Tots is a remarkable event, our employees are to thank for their generosity and commitment to helping the Toys for Tots program, as new owners of this franchise location we are proud to be a part of this event, and we are looking forward to many successful community events in the future,” said Will Murray, co-owner of The Greene Turtle Germantown and Hagerstown locations.
Last year, Greene Turtle locations throughout Maryland raised more than $60,000 for local Toys for Tots programs, This year the goal is to raise more than $70,000. The Greene Turtle Franchising Corporation has promised to add a matching $500 donation for each participating location that earns $1,000 in tips.
In the Germantown location, the goal is to raise $1,200 during the event that will kick off Wednesday, Dec. 9 from 11:00 am until midnight. However, donations of unwrapped toys will be collected at the Germantown location through Thursday, Dec. 10. Donations can also be made directly through the Toys for Tots GoFundMe page.
