Clarksburg Towing Company Wins Beauty Prize

Clarksburg-based Morton’s Towing & Recovery, captured the First Place Award for Heavy-Duty Truck in the national Shine ‘n Star Tow Truck Photo Beauty Contest, hosted by towing industry trade magazine Tow Times.

Morton’s Towing won with a 2015 Peterbilt truck with a 2015 Century 1150R rotator. It sports a custom psychedelic paint job with yellow, green and purple striping. One of the company’s fleet of 35 tow trucks, it was chosen out of more than 500 entries submitted in five categories this year from around the country and Canada.

The Shine ‘n Star Tow Truck Photo Beauty Contest first-place award adds another notch to Morton’s 13 years of outstanding service in the Montgomery County area, where the company boasts one of the largest towing fleets. Morton’s Towing, which started with one flatbed truck out of the owner’s living room, today has four locations: Rockville, Clarksburg, Laurel and Mount Airy.

“It’s a beautiful truck,” said owner David Morton, adding “all of our tow trucks look like that.”

That’s one reason Morton’s has won about 10 prizes in regional tow truck beauty contests. Like many tow truck operators, David Morton loves his trucks. The annual Shine ‘n Star Tow Truck Photo Beauty Contest taps into towing operators’ pride in their fleet, providing an opportunity to show off the beauty and brawn of their equipment.

In existence since 1991, the Shine ‘n Star national tow truck photo beauty contest offers 16 cash prizes, with first-place winners such as Morton’s Towing also featured on a future cover of Tow Times.
