Catherine Hoggle Remains Incompetent, New Court Date Set for February

November 23, 2015

A Montgomery County District Court Judge ruled Monday that Catherine Hoggle was still not yet competent to stand trial on child neglect charges stemming from the disappearance of her two young children in September of 2014.

According to reports, Judge William G. Simmons ruled that Hoggle was still not competent to participate in her defense of the charges after reading the report of the doctors at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center. He ordered another status hearing in the case to determine if Hoggle’s mental condition improves. The hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 22, 2016

Hoggle is currently facing misdemeanor charges of child neglect and obstructing and hindering an investigation after going missing in Germantown with her two young children, Jacob and Sarah, in September of 2014. The children remain missing and Montgomery County Police and the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Office are pursuing homicide charges against Hoggle which move the case from the District Court to the Circuit Court, but those charges have yet to be filed.

The family posted a message on the Find Sarah and Jacob FaceBook page, “Sarah and Jacob's mother fears being sent back to jail for additional charges if competent. It's time that ‪Maryland makes rules that allows ‪‎mental illness to be treated in hospitals where the full ‪‎mental health team can get her well.”

According to the message, Catherine Hoggle still maintains that the children are with someone. “We continue to search for and build awareness for ‪Jacob and Sarah.”

Last Friday, Nov. 20 marked Sarah’s fifth birthday. The missing girl’s father, Troy Turner posted the following message on the Find Sarah and Jacob FaceBook page, “I don't usually post things, however today is my daughter's 5th birthday this will be the second year in a row she's not home for a celebration. A lot of people say that things get better and easier with time, this is not one of those things. I'm making this post public just in case someone does have my children. If you do and you happen to see this please tell my daughter happy birthday and tell my babies that daddy loves them.”
