Shred and Recycle Event Planned at Northwest

The Division of Solid Waste Services of the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection will hold a Shred – Recycle – Donate event on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Northwest High School in Germantown.

The event will allow Germantown area and MoCo residents to shred and recycle confidential papers and donate useable clothing and household items to the Big Brothers/Big Sisters National Capital Area.

This recycling event is free of charge and open to all residents. Please, no businesses. All paper will be shredded on-site. These are drive-through events, and participants are asked to stay in your vehicles. For everyone’s safety, participants will not be able to watch their paper being shredded. There is a limit of five paper bags or small cardboard boxes of paper per household/vehicle.

Acceptable types of paper for shredding include: All types of paper such as financial and legal documents, receipts, and tax and medical records; Papers with staples or paper clips (please remove binder clips); and Envelopes with plastic windows.

Unacceptable items include: Paper in 3-ring binders and spiral notebooks (please remove binders and spiral bindings); Plastic items such as credit cards or plastic bags; and Electronic items such as CDs or computer disks.

The last car must be in line by 2:00 pm.
