Jaguars Pounce on Coyotes 35-0

October 31, 2015

Coming off a 56-6 win over the Churchill Bull Dogs last Friday, Coach Mike Neubeiser, staff, and the now 6-3 Northwest High School Jaguars are determined to make the Division playoffs. The 35-0 win over the Clarksburg High School Coyotes is only step one in attaining a playoff spot as the defending State Champions. Step two will be getting past 3-6 Wootton High School next Friday, Nov. 6.

The Jags picked up where they left off last week, putting the ball in the end zone five times in the first half. Junior running back Khalil Owens got the Jags on the board early with touchdown.

Defensively Northwest stuffed the Clarksburg offense. Coyote quarterback Hunter Reimers and running back Stanley Perry could not get much going, thanks to a staunch effort from Jags senior Martin Foray and juniors Wesley McCormick and Tobi Akpona. Defensively, the Jaguars forced an interception in the first quarter that lead to the second touchdown of quarter.

Senior quarterback Mark Pierce hit senior receiver J.J. Funez on a 45 yard touchdown strike to extend the Jags lead to 14-0.

Owens would get his second of three touchdowns of the first quarter on a 20 yard run to make it 21-0 Northwest over Clarksburg.

Pierce wasn’t done. He would later hit Reggie Anderson on a 45 yard bomb to extend the lead to 28-0, with six minutes remaining in the first half.

On the next possession Owens would get the hat trick, a six-yard touchdown run to end the scoring and put the Jags up 35-0.

The win improves the Jags to 6-3 and drops Clarksburg to a disappointing 4-5. Next week, the Jags will host the Wootton Patriots, who are coming off a 31-12 win over Churchill High School. This game will probably be the most important game in regular season, as it will be the last home game, and Senior Night at Northwest High School.

The Coyotes will hope to end their season at an even 5-5 as they host 5-4 Springbrook, who are coming off a 48-18 loss to Aberdeen High School on Friday night.
