Three Firefighters Injured Battling Large House Fire

Three firefighters suffered minor injuries battling a fire which all but destroyed a Germantown home Wednesday night. The fire blazed through the roof and rain poured down on responding units, as concerned neighbors gathered to watch the MCFRS personnel fight the fire.

Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units were called to 17809 Falconcrest Circle at about 4:45 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 28 for a house fire. According to MCFRS senior spokesman Pete Piringer, arriving units encountered heavy fire in the large three-story single-family home, with the bulk of the fire in both the attic and the basement.

One member of the family of four was home at the time of the fire and was able to escape without injury. More than 60 firefighters from the Germantown and surrounding areas responded to the fire. Three firefighters suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries while battling the blaze.

The fire seemed to begin outside in the outside rear of the house. According to Piringer, the rear deck collapsed.

A family of four will be displaced as a result of the fire, which officials estimate did more than $400,000 in damage to the residence, which suffered significant fire, smoke, water damage. The Red Cross was notified but not needs, as residents will be staying with family and friends.
