Two Perry Touchdowns Not Enough to Lift Coyotes Over Rockets

October 26, 2015

In an anticipated 4A North conference matchup against an improving Richard Montgomery who’s only lost this season was to Northwest. The Coyotes would fall 20-13 Friday night in Rockville to the Rockets. The loss eliminates Clarksburg from post-season contention.

Richard Montgomery fumbled on their first possession, with 9:34 in the first. However, the Coyotes could not capitalize on the turnover and missed an early chance at a field goal. Giving the Rockets the ball at their 20 yard line with 5:40 left in the first. The Rockets high tempo offense would march for an 80-yard scoring drive. Richard Montgomery would lead 6-0.

The Coyotes answered back thanks to an interception by senior defensive back Malik McCrary. Clarksburg would put together a drive, which included two successful fourth down conversion and culminated with a touchdown run from senior running back Stanley Perry Jr. Tying the game 6-6 with 4:51 before the half.

The combination of penalties and Richard Montgomery’s senior wide receiver Daniel Alexander created problems for the Coyotes. Penalty flags were a problem for Clarksburg on both offense and defense. The Coyotes had no answers for an improved Rockets offense, which was able to put 20 points on the board.

With Clarksburg down 20-6, senior quarterback Hunter Reimers, who was sacked and beaten for a majority of the second half bounced back, for a 35 yard touchdown pass to Perry Jr. with 6:53 left in the fourth quarter to cut the Rockets lead to a 20-13.

With the win Richard Montgomery extends their record to 7-1, and will travel to 5-3 Gaithersburg next Friday. The Trojans are coming off a 27-25 victory over Wootton.

The Coyotes are now 4-4 and will travel to neighboring Northwest next week. Head Coach Larry Hurd said the team is excited to play their cross town rivals in the 4A North matchup against Coach Nuebeiser and the Jags. The Jags are now 5-3 after a 56-6 pounding of Churchill on Friday night. Hurd noted he’s very confident in his senior class, telling the Pulse his team will practice, practice, practice.
