Fire Rips Through Damascus Road Home

An early morning fire ripped through a Damascus Road home Thursday morning doing well over $500,000 in damage and leaving a family without a place to live.

Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units were called to 8130 Damascus Road for a report of a garage fire. Arriving firefighters discovered a fire in an attached garage of the large single-family ranch-style house. According Pete Piringer, senior spokesman for the MCFRS, first arriving fire fighters encountered heavy fire conditions throughout the house.

As fire fighters engaged in the fighting the fire, additional units were called to scene which is in a non-hydrant area in rural Damascus, near Jarl Drive in Damascus. During the firefight a portion of the roof collapsed. MCFRS EMS evaluated two occupants, all of which escaped the house without injury.

The fire has displaced a family of five, three adults and two children. No MCFRS personnel were injured. According to Piringer, the fire originated in the garage and the cause is under investigation.
