MCPD Investigating Hit and Run Collision Involving Seneca Valley Student



Montgomery County Police are investigating a hit and run incident which involved a freshman at Seneca Valley High School who was riding his bike to school early in the morning.​

Police say the incident took place at Great Seneca Highway and Wisteria Drive at about 7:30 am on Tuesday, October 6. According to police, a vehicle described as a white van made a left turn from Wisteria Drive onto northbound Great Seneca Highway and struck the bicyclist while he was in a marked crosswalk. After striking the victim, the driver of the van initially slowed and then fled from the area.

A report by NBC4 Washington, identified the student at 14-year-old Adi Alverez of Germantown. Alverez described the driver of the van is described as a black female in her 50’s and wearing glasses.


After the incident Adi’s father Fernando Alverez took to FaceBook to ask the community for help in locating the driver of the van that struck his son. He wrote on FaceBook, “He was riding his bike and was crossing the pedestrian lane while the ‘walk signal’ was on when this WHITE SUV/VAN drove and speed thru the red light. SHE DID NOT STOP AND ALMOST KILLED MY SON! If anyone had witnessed the incident please help us.”

According the NBC4 report the ninth-grader suffered a sprained ankle in the incident. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision or who has information about this collision to please call the police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.
