Montgomery County Launches New Redesigned Website

Montgomery County Government deployed the next generation of its website today to better showcase content and provide improved access to the information relied on daily by residents, business people and other constituents.

The County’s website team analyzed user feedback, website metrics and usability studies, and used the results to guide the redesign, resulting in a cleaner information-centric website. The goal was to highlight the most current and relevant content, as well as provide multiple avenues to site users so they can easily find what they seek.

“I’m pleased that we are rolling out a new design for our website,” said Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett. “It will further my goal of making Montgomery County Government more transparent and accessible. The new site will make it easier for residents to connect with their government and find the services they need.”

The new montgomerycountymd.gov includes the following site enhancements: Responsive Web Design; Optimized search engine; and improved navigation.

The responsive website template was developed to satisfy increasing user demand for mobile content. Roughly 35 percent of all County website sessions are accomplished using mobile devices and tablets. Additionally, the County’s website team reviewed more than 13,000 user survey responses, which indicated that Site Navigation was the most significant deficiency on the existing website. In response, the County implemented several navigation improvements aimed at streamlining and simplifying access to the myriad available services and information.

searchMontgomery, the County’s improved search engine feature, strengthens access to information contained within County agency websites. searchMontgomery leverages Google Site Search technology to enable Web users to quickly and accurately search by keyword or phrase to discover relevant content that is distributed among all County agency websites, including Montgomery County Government, Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery College, the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, the Maryland National Parks and Planning Commission, and the Housing Opportunities Commission.

As a result, searchMontgomery users need not know which County website contains the information or service they require. Users will simply need to enter a keyword or phrase to search all County-sponsored websites to discover relevant information or to find a service offering.

Website visitors can sign up for the County’s eSubscription system, powered by GovDelivery. eSubscription (montgomerycountymd.gov/esubscription) subscribers are able to manage their accounts and to sign-up to receive free, electronic newsletters, updates, and announcements via email or text message.
