Police Investigating Fatal Collision on Darnestown Road

September 30, 2015

The Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a single-vehicle collision which killed an unidentified adult male driver, early Wednesday morning in Darnestown.

At about 3:08 am this morning, MCPD and MCFRS personnel were dispatched to Darnestown Road between Route 107 and Bellingham Drive for the report of a single-vehicle collision.

The accident and investigation closed Darnestown Road (Route 28) in both directions between Black Rock Road and White’s Ferry Road for much of the morning commute. Police reopened the road to traffic in both directions at about 8:15 am on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the vehicle was travelling east bound on Darnestown Road (Route 28), east of the White’s Ferry Road (Route 107) junction. For reasons still under investigation, the passenger vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree off the eastbound shoulder, and came to rest on its side on the westbound shoulder of Darnestown Road.  At some point during the crash, the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The adult male driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
