Police Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run in Clarksburg, Suspect in Custody
Montgomery County Police are investigating a hit-and-run incident in Clarksburg which left one man dead Friday afternoon, however witnesses say it was no accident.
Police were called to Sweetspire Drive in Clarksburg, near the intersection with Little Seneca Parkway at about 12:21 pm on Friday afternoon for the report of pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.
According Corporal Rebecca Innocenti, police arrived to find a deceased male. The driver had left the scene. A short time later, police received a call on Amber Ridge Circle in Germantown and the caller said that the driver of the vehicle involved with the hit-and-run was at that residence. Police could not confirm if that address was the residence of the alleged hit-and-run driver.
“Police responded to the residence, located the driver, and located the vehicle,” said Innocenti. “Police are speaking to the driver and are also speaking to witnesses to determine exactly what occurred during this incident.”
Innocenti said that police are investigating the possibility that the victim and driver knew each other but she could not confirm that Friday afternoon. She said that the incident was being investigated by the MCPD Collision Reconstruction Unit as well as the Major Crimes Division as a death investigation, but not yet as a homicide.
However, a number of witnesses at the scene said that the driver and victim had gotten into a physical altercation shortly before the collision. According to one witness the one of the men in the altercation got into his car and sped away, only to come back around the block, driving north on Sweetspire Drive and slam his car into the victim as he walked his dog and sped off jumping the median on Little Seneca Parkway in the process of making a right turn. Police could not confirm this account.
Police did not release the identification of either the victim or the driver this afternoon and could not confirm residence status of either person.
