Ride On to Hold Public Form on Cuts to Germantown Routes Tonight
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation will host a public forum on proposed changes and cuts to Ride On bus routes tonight at the Uncounty Regional Services Center. The forum will begin at 6:30 pm.
Ride On is proposing the elimination of some routes to help close the significant budget shortfall facing the County. Ride has proposed the elimination of the following bus routes:
In Germantown the Route 98, which runs from the Kingsview Park and Ride area and runs through Germantown throughout Germantown to the Transit Center on Airpark Drive on weekdays, with stops at Clopper Miller Elementary during peak hours. The cuts would also eliminate the 98 Route on weekends which include stops at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
The cuts would also eliminate Saturday and Sunday service on the Route 83, which runs from the Milestone Shopping Center to the office park near Dorsey Mill Road through the Waters Landing neighborhood to the Germantown Transit Center, with a stop at the Germantown MARC train station.
The other proposed route elimination is Route 42 weekday, Saturday and Sunday service, which operates from the White Flint Mall to Montgomery Mall.
Each year, Ride On creates a performance indicator for each route and ranks them accordingly. The performance indicator compares the resources allocated to each route with the number of average daily riders. The routes proposed for elimination are among the lowest performing in Ride On’s system.
Tonight’s forum will begin at 6:30 pm at the UpCounty Regional Services Center at 12900 Middlebrook Road, Germantown (large training room). Ride On will conduct a second public forum next Thursday, Sept. 24 at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville (lobby level auditorium) If either forum is cancelled due to inclement weather, a public forum will be held on Wednesday, September 30.
Additionally, comments on the proposed service route eliminations may be submitted in writing, by email, or by fax to the Division of Transit Services by September 30, 2015. Send written comments to the Division of Transit Services, Ride On Public Forum, 101 Monroe Street, 5th Floor, Rockville, MD 20850.
