Kingsview Middle School Student Suffers Minor Injuries After Being Struck by Car

September 17, 2015

A 14-year-old Kingsview Middle School student is recovering from minor injuries after being struck by a car near her bus stop yesterday morning, according to an email sent to parents by Kingsview Middle School Principal Jimmy D’Andrea.

The accident happened at about 7:45 am yesterday morning near the intersection of Richter Farm Road and Sanderling Place in Germantown. MCFRS responded and transported the teenager girl to the hospital with very minor injuries as a precaution, according to MCFRS senior spokesman Pete Piringer. The student returned to school later that afternoon, according to D’Andrea’s email to parents.

D’Andrea explained in the email that a number of Kingsview students may have witnessed the accident and the emergency vehicles at the scenes. “Administrators and counselors have met with those students, and counselors will continue to be available throughout the coming days to talk to students. We are also working with the Montgomery County Police Department and the MCPS Department of Transportation to review the circumstances of the incident and to ensure that all students are able to travel safely to and from school,” said D’Andrea.

MCFRS and MCPD confirmed that the MCPS school bus was not involved in the accident.

Last year, two Kingsview Middle School students were struck by a car while crossing the street on the way to school at the intersection of Clopper Road and Kingsview Road, which is very close to the school. While the girls were not badly injured in the incident, it did spark the County to make changes to the intersectionThere is now a seven-second delay between when the “WALK” signal to cross Clopper Road comes on and when the lights turn red in all directions. The delay gives students and parents walking to school seven seconds to get across prior to any traffic moving in the intersection. The County has also ended the practice of turning right on red from Clopper Road to Kingsview Road. That intersection now has a “No Turn On Red” sign.
