Coyotes Come Out Howling, Beat Bulldogs

September 8, 2015

While there was no moon on a cloudy Friday evening in Potomac, that didn’t stop the Clarksburg Coyotes from howling as they played their season opener against non-conference Winston Churchill.

The favored Coyotes started the season with a not so surprising 27-8 win over the Bulldogs. Head Coach Larry Hurd, Jr told the Germantown Pulse in a preview interview that he knew better than to take any team for granted.  While the Churchill may not be strong contenders to go deep into the state playoffs, Bulldogs running back Andrew Zuckerman proved why he has potential to be one of the strongest backs in the county.

Clarksburg’s senior quarterback Hunter Reimers started the opening drive with a ten-yard pass reception for a touchdown to senior wide receiver Justin Parrales giving the Coyotes an early 8-0 lead.

The Coyotes would put together another scoring drive that ended when senior running back Javon Gordon’s with a one-yard run to give Clarksburg an early 14-0 lead with only 2:08 left in the first quarter.

Reimers yet again proved why he has the potential to compete in the 4A North Division, alongside two-year state champ Mark Pierce and the Northwest Jaguars. Reimers connected with senior wide receiver Stanley Perry for a 61-yard catch and run with 11:36 remaining in the first half.

Clarksburg led Churchill 21-0 the first half. Clarksburg’s multi-front defense did a great job of not allowing Churchill to get points on the board in the first half.

With Eight minutes remaining in the third quarter, Andrew Rawlings ran the ball in for another Clarksburg touchdown. Giving the Coyotes a 27-0 lead.

With a 27 point lead in the fourth quarter, the Coyotes seemed to take their collective foot off the gas, which allowed Churchill get on the board with an Andrew Zuckerman touchdown that cut the lead to 27-8 with just 1:39 left in the game.

The Coyotes will host 4A East Sherwood next Friday at home. Sherwood is coming off a 47-6 victory over Bethesda-Chevy Chase. Churchill will face Einstein at home, who lost to Richard Montgomery 34-7 on Friday.
