Crash on I-270 Snarls Tuesday Evening Traffic

A late afternoon collision between two cars left traffic snarled for the Tuesday afternoon rush hour throughout the Upcounty area yesterday.

According to Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service senior spokesman Pete Piringer, shortly before 4:00 pm two cars on southbound I-270 collided just north of Clarksburg Road sending one car up a hill and into the woods and trapping the driver in the car.

MCFRS units shut down southbound traffic while they worked to extricate the driver who was trapped in the vehicle for more than 30 minutes. Once the driver, an adult male was extricated, he was transported to a local hospital with priority two trauma.

The collision closed southbound lanes on I-270 for more than an hour just prior to rush hour. The road was reopened after 5:00 pm. However, the backup on I-270 had already caused local roads to become jammed as commuters began to use alternate routes to get home, and traffic on Germantown and Clarksburg area roads was heavier than usual.
