Congressman Delaney to Host Climate Action Workshop in Germantown

Congressman John K. Delaney (MD-6) will host a Climate Action Workshop at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown on Tuesday, August 25, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

The event will feature a panel discussion and forum with representatives from federal agencies and leading environmental groups. Panelists will discuss how climate change is impacting Maryland and answer audience questions.

The panel will include; Congressman Delaney, as well as Representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Sierra Club, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the League of Conservation Voters and other organizations.

In April, Congressman Delaney introduced climate change legislation designed to reduce carbon pollution and encourage alternative energy production. Delaney’s Tax Pollution, Not Profits Act establishes a tax on greenhouse gas emissions; these revenues will then be used to 1) provide monthly payments to low-income and middle-class households 2) reduce the corporate tax rate to increase employment and reduce consumer costs and 3) fund job training, early retirement and health care benefits to coal workers. By utilizing market forces to respond to climate change, Delaney’s legislation positions the United States to become a global leader in new energy technology and production and in environmental policy.

The BlackRock Center for the Arts is located at 12901 Town Commons Drive in Germantown.
