Police Arrest Gaithersburg Man in Connection with Germantown Homicide

August 12, 2015

Police say a man was stabbed to death in Germantown last night by the ex-boyfriend of the woman the victim is currently dating.

Montgomery County Police have arrested Miguel Angel Rodriguez-Gaona, 36, of North Summit Drive in Gaithersburg for the murder of William Palacios, 40, of Walnut View Court in Germantown. MCPD have charged Rodriguez-Gaona with first-degree murder. Detectives are investigating this homicide as domestic in nature.

A 9-1-1 call brought police to the 12900 block of Walnut View Court at 11:25 pm on Tuesday, Aug. 11, where officers located an Palcios with stab wounds. The victim was transported by MCFRS to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to police, Palacios and his girlfriend -- who is the ex-girlfriend of Rodriguez-Gaona – were in the parking lot in front of his residence on Walnut View Court last night. Police say that Rodriguez-Gaona appeared from the rear of the row of townhomes and confronted Palacios. Palacios and Rodriguez-Gaona argued, and Rodriguez-Gaona stabbed Palacios numerous times with an unknown sharp object and then fled the area.

At the scene, last night detectives had cordoned off a section of the parking lot and were seen photographing numerous blood stains on the street, along with a set of keys. It is unknown if the keys were used in committing the homicide, or to whom the keys may belong.

The incident sparked a manhunt for Rodriguez-Gaona in the Germantown neighborhood, which included using K-9 units as well as a Maryland State Police helicopter. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Rodriguez-Gaona, charging him with first-degree murder.  He was arrested by Montgomery County Police officers today at approximately 12:00 pm in Baltimore and will be transported to the Central Processing Unit.

Major Crimes continue to investigate this homicide.  Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070.
