UPDATE: Man Shot Wife, Self in Front of Daughter

Montgomery County Police now believe the murder-suicide at the gas station was a married couple. Police believe that the shooting took place while a 16-year-old female family member was sent into the store to pay for the gas.

According to Capt. Paul Starks, “The preliminary investigation has revealed that the male and female who were shot are believed to have been married to each other. They arrived at the gas station with a 16-year-old female passenger who was a family member. The 16-year-old was sent into the store to pay for gas. The suspect and victim remained in the vehicle and became involved in an argument. The argument culminated in the male shooting the female.”

Montgomery County Police received numerous calls of gunshots at the gas station at 20510 Germantown Road at the intersection of Route 118 and Route 355 at 12:24 pm on Tuesday afternoon, August 4.

First responders located an adult female and adult male with apparent gunshot wounds. The male was deceased at the scene. The female was transported to a local trauma center where she succumbed to her injuries. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Starks said, “There was an off-duty officer at the gas station in his marked police vehicle but not in uniform. He heard one gunshot, went to the vehicle at the gas station in an attempt to intervene. He made contact with one male subject and identified himself as a police officer. The male subject then put the gun to his own head and shot himself.”

Starks said the off-duty officer did not fire his weapon. Police have recovered the murder weapon at the scene.

Anyone with information regarding this event is asked to contact the Major Crimes Division at 240.773.5070.
