Two Germantown Residents Attacked and Robbed by a Gang of Teens

Montgomery County Police Department reported a number of criminal incidents in Germantown from July 13 through July 21.

   Montgomery County police reported that a group five or six young black males attacked and robbed, or tried to rob, two people while they were walking on the street in two separate incidents. The attacks took place within minutes of each other in the central Germantown area on Saturday night, July 18.

   The first attack occurred outside of the Green Turtle Restaurant at 19961 Century Boulevard at about 11:15 pm. Police say an adult male victim was approached by a group of five black youths in their late teens. They demanded money and his phone, but the victim refused to comply. Police say that two or three teenagers then assaulted and beat the victim, and fled the area. The attackers did not get away with any property.

   However, a second victim was as not as lucky. According to police, just five minutes later at 11:20 pm another adult male victim was approached, beaten and robbed by the same group of teens just blocks away near Crystal Rock Drive and Locbury Drive. This victim was beaten and robbed of his money and cell phone.

   Another mugging was reported in the area of Cinnamon Drive and Nutmeg Place; this one happened on Wednesday, July 15. Police say an adult male victim was jumped from behind by two assailants as he walked home from the bus stop at 10:45 pm. The suspects, in this case, are a black adult male and an adult black female. Police say the suspects knocked the victim to the ground, beat him and demanded his money. According to police, the victim defended himself and refused to hand over his cash. The suspects fled the scene.

   Also on July 15 police reported an aggravated assault occurred at the Beer and Wine store at 19590 Frederick Road at 10:00 pm. The victim as assaulted by an unknown black adult male. Nothing was taken.

   Police report another mugging in the 19500 block of Frederick Road at about midnight on Friday, July 17. The victim was assaulted by the suspect, and cash was taken.

   Police were called to the Target Store in the Milestone Shopping Center on Tuesday, July 21 at 8:30 am for the report prescription fraud. When police arrived, the suspect attempted to flee the scene and attempted to use his vehicle to assault a police officer. Police arrested a 25-year-old Silver Spring man and charged him with aggravated assault, as well as prescription fraud.

   A commercial burglary occurred at the snack bar at Germantown Outdoor Pool at 18905 Kingsview Road in the early morning hours of Monday, July 20. Police report forced entry and property was stolen.

   There were four residential burglaries in the Germantown area between July 16 and July 21. The first took place 20000 block of Crystal Hill Circle on Thursday July 16 between 7:30 am and 11:00 pm. Police report forced entry and property was taken.

   Another residential burglary occurred in the 18000 block of Winding Creek Place on Saturday, July 18 at 4:00 am. Forced entry; nothing taken

   Another residential burglary occurred in the 23000 block of Basil Park Circle in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 19. Forced entry; property and cash were taken.

   The fourth reported residential burglary occurred in the 20000 block of Foxwood Terrace on Tuesday, July 21 between 11:00 am and 2:30 pm. Forced entry; cash was taken.

   Multiple related thefts from vehicles occurred in the early morning hours of Friday, July 17. According to police there were four incidents. In each incident the vehicle was forced open and property and cash were taken. The incidents happened on Lake Park Drive, Wild Cherry Lane, and two incidents on Wanegarden Court.

   MCPD reminds residents that additional incidents may have occurred and the reports had not yet been received at the time of publication, on August 1.
