Quick Acting Lifeguards Assist Youth in Distress at Germantown Pool
Lifeguards at a Germantown pool acted quickly to help a teenager suffering a medical emergency while swimming on Monday afternoon.
Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units were called to the Germantown Outdoor Pool at 18905 Kingsview Road, near the Germantown Recreation Center, for the report of a swimmer in distress shortly before 4:00 pm today.
MCFRS officials said that when units arrived, lifeguards at the pool, which is run by Montgomery County Recreation, had the patient out of the pool. The patient was a teenager with non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Officials were quick to point out that this was not a drowning incident. “While the medical emergency happened in the pool, it was not the result of the pool,” said Battalion Chief Dan Ogren.
Melanie Sasse, Montgomery County Recreation Aquatics Program Supervisor, said, “Our lifeguards noticed a swimmer in distress. They pulled the swimmer from the pool and waited for fire rescue units. The swimmer was conscious and breathing the entire time.” There were no further updates on the condition of the swimmer.
