Community Meeting About Domestic Violence Scheduled

A public conversation about domestic violence in the community will take place on Tuesday, July 21, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Upcounty Regional Services Center, 12900 Middlebrook Road in Germantown.

Entitled “Because Love Shouldn’t Hurt,” the free event will provide information about services that are available and how to help friends and family in relationships affected by abuse.

Several agencies are coming together to offer information to victims, their family members and friends. After a brief overview on domestic and dating abuse, presenters will explain what resources are available in Montgomery County. The agenda and presenters are as follows:

- An overview of domestic/dating violence, myths, misperceptions - the Family Justice Center;

- A survivor’s own story;

- What to expect from the Police and the Courts - the Police Commanders serving the Upcounty; the Sheriff’s Office; and the State’s Attorney’s Office; and

- Resources that are available to Victims, their Family and Friends - Health & Human Services’ Abused Persons Program; and the Family Justice Center.

The conversation is sponsored by Montgomery County’s Abused Persons Program, Commission for Women, Family Justice Center, State’s Attorney’s Office, Police Department and Upcounty Regional Services Center, as well as the Germantown Target store.

The event is free and pre-registration is not necessary. For more information, call 240-777-8333 or 240-777-8040.
