BlackRock Goes Brazilian with Matuto as Part of Summer Concerts

Matuto.jpg

The BlackRock Center for Arts will continue its Free Summer Concert Series tomorrow with the Brazilian rhythms of Matuto on Saturday, July 11, at 7:00 pm.

Drawing on Northeastern Brazil’s folkloric rhythms like forró, maracatu, or coco, and on deep Americana—from bluegrass to spirituals to swampy Louisiana jams—Matuto (a Northeastern Brazilian slang term for “bumpkin”) uses unexpected Pan-American sounds to craft fun and rootsy music. The result is rolling drums and quicksilver accordion licks, earthy vibes and thoughtful reflections mingle on the latest refinement of their Appalachia-gone-Afro-Brazilian sound.

Next week, July 17 BlackRock presents the Swedish circus company Magmanus at 7:00 pm on the lawn out on Century Boulevard. In this show, created and performed Magmanus, you will meet an angry, small but passionate acrobat and a stupid, gigantic yet so lovable juggler. Together they perform in a circus show with jaw-dropping skills and stomach turning comedy that includes Bollywood juggling, teeterboard dancing and handstand, and a high-flying acrobatic grand finale.

All Summer Concerts will be performed on the BlackRock front lawn, weather permitting. In the case of inclement weather, the concert will move inside to the BlackRock Mainstage
