Driver Ejected, Killed After Crash I-270 Exit Ramp

June 28, 2015

A Frederick County man is dead after a single vehicle accident on the Middlebrook Road exit ramp from I-27 in Germantown early Sunday morning.

Maryland State Police say the driver, Michael Stephen Bolton, 53, of Frederick County was pronounced dead after being ejected from his white Subaru as he attempted to exit northbound I-270 at exit 13B to Middlebrook Road.

According to a State Police press release, at 12:41 am on Sunday night a citizen called Maryland State Police Barrack N and reported seeing a “white Subaru that was traveling at approximately 80 mph, and was weaving all over the road.” The caller then advised that the vehicle had overturned at the exit ramp.

“When troopers arrived at the scene, they observed the white Subaru, approximately 15-feet into the woods, and the driver of the vehicle, who was fully ejected and positioned in the woods, approximately 50 yards to the rear of the Subaru. Due to the extensive trauma to the driver’s head, he was pronounced deceased at the scene,” said police. No one else was in the car at the time of the accident.

Montgomery County Fire Rescue Services were called to the scene to assist in searching for the body of the driver. The ramp to westbound Middlebrook Road was closed for a number of hours early Sunday morning as Maryland State Police and the medical examiner investigated the incident.
