Crash Rips Engine From Vehicle, Seriously Injures Driver

Montgomery County Police are investigating the causes leading up to a crash which left one man in serious condition and ripped the engine from the vehicle last night.

The accident occurred at about 7:45 pm Sunday night on Germantown Road between Scenery Drive and Blunt Road. Firefighters had to extricate a 27-year-old man out of the black Toyota Corolla he was driving after it veered off the road and hit a tree on the opposite side of the

roadway. The impact of the crash ripped the engine from the vehicle, according to police. The crash sent pieces of debris from the vehicle more than 100-feet away from the impact site.

According to MCFRS senior spokesman, first responders had originally called for a Medevac helicopter, but the call was later cancelled. MCFRS transported the patient to a local hospital as a priority one trauma.

Montgomery County Police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks told WJLA that police were looking into reports that there was an “altercation” between the driver of the black Toyota and another vehicle just prior to the accident. Police are also looking into whether or not alcohol was a factor in the collision.

That section of Germantown Road was closed for several hours Sunday night as the MCPD Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the accident.
