Montgomery County Police have arrested one man in connection with the shooting which sparked a manhunt through the Waters Landing neighborhood on Tuesday night.
Detectives arrested Tre’von Devonte James, 18, of the 20100 block of Club Hill Road in Germantown on Thursday morning, May 28 in connection with the shooting which occurred two nights earlier in the 20500 block of Summersong Lane, according to MCP spokesperson Cpl. Rebecca Innocenti.
James is charged with two counts each of Attempted First Degree Murder, First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and Use of a Firearm in a Violent Felony for shooting at the mother of his infant child and her brother, said Innocenti.
According to the court documents, Police were called to Summersong Lane after receiving a number of calls for the sounds of shots fired. Upon arrival police found a female victim “bleeding profusely” from a gunshot wound to her right elbow. She was transported by MCFRS to a hospital where she underwent reconstructive surgery on her arm.
Detectives determined the events of Tuesday night were the result of ongoing domestic dispute between James and the victim dating back to Saturday, May 9, according to court documents. The victim allegedly had been involved in several domestic violence incidents with the defendant, who is also the father of her infant child.
Charging documents state the victim’s family and the defendant and his friends “have been involved in an ongoing altercation” regarding the alleged domestic violence.
According to the Statement of Charges, on May 9, the victim’s brother confronted the defendant at his residence, and that time the defendant allegedly “brandished a semi-automatic fire arm” at the victim’s brother. The brother called 911 and reported that incident.
On Thursday night, the brother received a number of calls from the defendant telling him to come outside his residence on Summersong Lane and fight. The brother found the defendant and three male friends outside and a verbal altercation ensued, according to court documents. At this time it is alleged that James produced a dark colored semi-automatic handgun and began firing at the victim, her brother and other family members who had come outside to see what the yelling was about, said court documents.
The victim and her family immediately took shelter back in the residence. James and his associates fled the area on foot. Once inside, it was discovered that the victim had been shot in the arm.
After the shooting there was a large police presence in the Waters Landing neighborhood on Tuesday night as police searched for the suspects. Police set up a perimeter running from Summersong Lane around to Crystal Rock Drive and Kinster Drive, including the newly opened section of Century Boulevard to the southbound lanes of I-270, however the defendant was able to evade officers. Detectives arrested James on Thursday morning.
Tre’von Devonte James was arraigned before Judge Eugene Wolfe in District Court of Maryland in Montgomery County earlier today. James was order held on $750,000 bond and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 26. If convicted he faces up to life in prison for attempted murder in the first degree.
