Unlocked Vehicles Are Easy Targets for Thieves

Montgomery County Police Department reported a number of criminal incidents in Germantown May 11 through May 19

   District Five police report 17 thefts from vehicles in the Germantown area between May 13 and May 18.

   Five thefts from vehicles occurred in the Gunners Lake area in the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 13. Affected streets include Flag Harbour Drive, Island View Circle, and Sky Blue Court. Police say there was no forced entry into the vehicles in these cases but property was stolen.

   Seven more thefts from vehicles occurred in the Little Seneca Creek area in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 17. Affected streets included Timber Oak Lane and Lavender Place. Again police say there was no forced entry into the vehicles in these cases but property was stolen.

   Five additional thefts from vehicles occurred in early morning hours of Monday, May 18. It is unknown if the incidents are related. Affected streets include Hamlet Square Court, Autumn Mist Circle and Metz Court, and Sky Blue Drive. In these cases, however, police report that the vehicles were locked and the burglars had to break in to obtain property.

   MCPD reminds residents that additional incidents may have occurred and the reports had not yet been received at the time of publication, on Jan. 23.
