Shooting Spurs Manhunt in Waters Landing Area
Montgomery County Police engaged in a manhunt last night in the Waters Landing neighborhood after a woman was shot by a person with which she was romantically involved. Police said the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute.
Police were called to the 20500 block of Summersong Lane for the report of gunshots at 10:40 pm Tuesday night, May 26. An unidentified 18-year-old women was been shot once by an unidentified suspect. The woman sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported the hospital by MCFRS.
MCP spokesperson Cpl. Rebecca Innocenti said that the incident was still under investigation and it was unclear how many suspects police were looking. She said police are searching for up to four suspects and that no arrests had been made in connection with this shooting.
After the shooting there was a large police presence in the Waters Landing neighborhood as police searched for the suspects. Police set up a perimeter running from Summersong Lane around to Crystal Rock Drive and Kinster Drive, including the newly opened section of Century Boulevard to the southbound lanes of I-270. The search also included the hiking trail which runs along Little Lake Seneca, behind Spinning Wheel Drive.
Officers used tracking dogs and a Maryland State Police helicopter to assist in the search, but were unable to locate any suspects. Innocenti said that two people were stopped by police but did not have anything to do with the shooting.
“The victim and shooter are known to each other,” said Innocenti. “This is not a random event. While residents should always be alert to their surroundings and take precautions to remain safe, we do not think there is any further danger to neighbors at this time.”
Innocenti said the incident has been turned over to detectives in MCPD’s Domestic Violence Division who would continue to investigate.
