Car Goes for An Early Swim in Community Pool

May 21, 2015

Three nights before the pool was set to open for the Memorial Day Weekend, a driver tested the waters of the Woodlake Community Pool off Waring Station Road in Germantown.

Montgomery County Police were called to the pool in the 18700 block of Waring Station Road at about 8:15 pm on Wednesday night, May 20. Police arrived to find a rented Nissan Versa SL hatchback in the pool.

Officer Kyle Berry said that the driver was a foreign national who was attempting to teach himself to drive in the parking lot adjacent to the pool. “He was learning how to drive and mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brake and jumped the curb, crashed through the fence, and ended up in the pool,” said Berry. The driver was not injured and was able to escape the vehicle unharmed.

The only people at the pool were members of RSV Pools, who were there preparing the pool to open this weekend. It was the pool service personnel who called 911, according to Berry.

Airpark Towing was called and the car was removed from the pool, and members of the pool company mended the broken fencing. The driver received a traffic summons.
