MCFRS Called to Correctional Center in Boyds

Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service units were called to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Boyds for a small fire this morning.

The fire was reported shortly after 7:00 am Tueaday morning May 5 at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on Whelan Lane in Boyds. MCFRS senior spokesman Pete Piringer said that the fire was a small electrical fire which spread to an adjacent pipe chase, or space in the building reserved for runs of pipe.

Fire officials said the fire was extinguished quickly and no one was injured and the building did not need to be evacuated.

The Montgomery County Correctional Facility is responsible for the custody and care of male and female offenders who are either in a pre-trial status or serving sentences of up to 18 months. The facility's capacity is 1,028 inmates.
